One Big Holiday 2014
January 26 - January 30, 2014
Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya
Puerto Aventuras, Mexico
My Morning Jacket was joined by The Flaming Lips, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Mariachi El Bronx, and Rob Garza for our inaugural One Big Holiday. More than a just series of shows, this destination concert experience combined the best of an all-inclusive vacation with the best of rock and roll - My Morning Jacket style!
My Morning Jacket's first show was no ordinary concert as the guys were soon joined onstage by Bob Weir of Furthur/Grateful Dead! The musical greatness only intensified with Mariachi El Bronx giving us a chance to see some Mexican Folk music performed with an American rock twist. The Flaming Lips performing classic fan favorites as well as some amazing covers such as The Beatles’ “I Want You (She’s So Heavy)” and David Bowie’s “Heroes”. Rounded out by incredible sets from Preservation Hall Jazz Band and late night DJ sets by Thievery Corporations’ Rob Garza, these four days were nothing short of epic.
Daytime activities around the pool, late night parties, and the creation of a "One Big Family" community put the event over the top. The Positive Legacy Day of Service brought Jacket fans together with the local community, the Poker Tournament created some friendly competition in the Theater, and the Tequila Tasting activity gave us a taste of Mexico. The epicenter of the afternoon’s fun was unquestionably the Lip Sync Contest, judged by Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips. We came as strangers but left as One Big Family, so appreciative and grateful for the amazing times had!
