Positive Legacy

One World United Through Music

Positive Legacy, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, works to magnify the cultural experiences of those attending My Morning Jacket One Big Holiday. Positive Legacy’s mission inspires music fans and artists to collectively take action and build a better world. Positive Legacy creates meaningful opportunities for musicians and fans to participate in humanitarian and environmental outreach projects to support the local community.

This year a team of One Big Holiday guests visited the Comunidad de Domingo Miaz to continue ongoing environmental projects. Our day began with an educational walk through of the waste-water filtration system installed by Positive Legacy and the community four years ago. Together we worked on projects that clean wastewater before it returns to the aquifer. This has already reduced skin infections and other health issues seen in the community.

After the tour, we worked alongside community members to construct recycling stations, did a community wide cleanup, planted trees in the central park and painted a mural! After a day of work in the sun we settled in for the afternoon a lunch of fried chicken, sweet plantains and corn fritters served by community leaders, music from a local band. We all got a dance lesson to learn the local dances Meringue and Bachata, moves we could take back to the Woodstock Plaza.
We are pleased to announce that Positive Legacy was able to raise $34,475 in this year’s charity auction! Auction proceeds will support Positive Legacy’s continued environmental & humanitarian projects in the Dominican Republic and across the Caribbean Sea. Thank you to all of the One Big Holiday fans who bid in the auction. A special thank you to the musicians and their management, the fans/artists for supporting the auction with their custom donations, and Josh Timmermans and Dave Vann for their amazing photography. A special thank you goes out to Seth Weiner for auctioneering and making it an auction to remember.
